With the release of ONE single card for the archtype, Volcanics instantly spewed into popularity--to the point where they even topped 8 at a recent Regional. But, as I looked at the deck, I realized that there were many things wrong with his build, and he only got his top due to NO ONE understanding how to properly combat the deck.
So I'm going to teach you how to combat this sneaky Tier 2 combatant, as well as how to properly build a functioning pile of cards that will simply sack everything you will face.
First, let's start with their Monster Line-Up
Volcanic Rat
This tastefully adorable rodent is shit Run: 0
Volcanic Shell
This guy is 1/3 of the heart and soul of the deck Run: 3
Volcanic Scattershot
This guy is also 1/3 of the heart and soul of the deck Run: 3
Volcanic Counter
This guy is cute, but very unneeded. Run: 0, 1 or 3 (depending on variant)
Volcanic Blaster
Back in the day forcing topdecks was great, but now it's too slow. Run: 0
Volcanic Slicer
This guy is a joke in any variant unless you're truly diehard about Mono-canics Run: 0
Volcanic Rocket
The last remaining 1/3 of the heart and soul of this deck Run: 3
Volcanic Hammerer
He's about as fantastic as Volcanic Rat, unless (again) you're a diehard Mono-canic fan Run: 0
Volcanic Queen
This one is tricky. It can be a very decent side. Run: 0 (or 2 in the side)
Volcanic Doomfire
He's no better than Hammerer, Slice, or Rat Run: 0 (or 1, if you're a diehard Mono-canic fan)
Then onto Spells
Blaze Accelerator
This guy was neat back in the day for keen-spot monster removal. Not anymore... Run: 0
Tri-Blaze Accelerator
Same as above, but now you get to burn a little too. But not anymore~ Run: 0
Wild Fire
Grave set-up + Dark Hole for only 500LP? Broken. Run: 1 --> 3 (depending on variant)
And finally Traps
Blaze Accelerator Reload
This is the bread/butter/syrup/ hell/God/Jesus/Beelze/cancer/sexiness of the deck Run: 3
Volcanic Recharge
Helps a little, but you get no pluses from it Run: 0 (or 1, for the Mono-canics)
With the core out of the way, lets move onto some support cards
Summoner Monk
Pitch a spell, summon Rocket, get a Search. +0 to you, sir Run: 2
Royal Firestorm Guards
Return 4, draw 2. What isn't there to love? Run: 2 --> 3
Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos
Pitch a fire to pop a card and set up for Guards or Summon it as a last resort 2800 beatstick Run: 1
Magic Planter
Send Reload to the grave, draw two. Now you have an easier way to Scattershot Run: 2 --> 3
Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
Pitch a Shell, Blaster, or Reload and spin a card? Neat. Run: 2 --> 3
Soul Transition
This card is sweeping the YuGiOh nation, with good reason too. Run: 2 --> 3
Now, with all the basics out of the way, let me explain the mechanics and point of this deck. At a quick glance, the only thing this deck can do on a consistent bases (and I do mean consistent) is loop Scattershot. With Reload on the Field or in the Graveyard, the threat of having all your monsters destroyed (as well as taking 1/8 of you LP) is very real. Rocket searches your trap card, and the trap card can either pitch Scattershot and draw 1 card, or banish itself from the grave to dump Scattershot directly from the deck. Either way, Scattershot activates, sending 2 more copies from the Deck or Hand to the grave--which then destroys all of your opponent's monsters. Then, after sending in Scattershot and 1 other Pyro-typed monster, you summon out Royal Guards to return everything to the deck and get a hefty 2-card draw.
Scattershot Rulings:
As a tasty tidbit, Scattershot has a pretty neat ruling when sent to the grave by the effect of a Accelerator card--well, its a function--that some cards to miss timing (as an example Fire and Ice Hand). How? Easy. Scattershot activates twice in the same chain.
Chain Link 1: Scattershot's mandatory effect activates; trying to deall 500 damage to your opponent
Chain Link 2: Scattershot then activates his second effect; sending his 2 other buddies to the grave as a cost, and then blows up every monster your opponent controls
Because of this, the last thing to happen is your opponent taking 500 points of damage; thus forcing some monsters to miss timing.
However, despite the obviousness, the decks isn't really just about looping Scattershot. In its purist form, the deck is nothing but absolute advantage. In the best of circumstances, sending Scattershot takes 3 cards out of your deck, which gives you a better chance of drawing into your most wanted cards, as well as clearing your opponent's board of monsters--which gives you a chance to hit directly with your monsters for maximum damage. Then, while running Upstart, Pot of Duality, Magic Planter, Guards and Reload, you should be (on average) be drawing 3 extra cards on your turn. That, in combination with basic Stun/Stall tactics (I.E: Vanity, Wing Wind Blast and Fiendish Chain) to help protect your monsters, this deck can be quite devastating to those who don't know how to run against it.
Then, with that note, stopping this deck is very simple: banish 1 Scattershot. That's it. It's easy. Lock out the Graveyard and separate 1 Scattershot from his buddies. Even if that 1 Scattershot isn't banished, your opponent now has to find a way to return it to the deck, because Scattershot cannot activate his secondary effect if 1 of his buddies is located in a place that is neither the deck or grave. Dark Law and Majesty's Fiend are also decent options, but keep in mind that your opponent most likely has better outs to these 2 cards than they do to recycling a single miss-placed Scattershot.
Finally, some basic combos in the deck: [list] ~Use Wing Wind Blast to pitch a Reload. Now the trap is in your grave, you can banish it during your opponent's M1 or M2 to mill out your Scattershots and void out their board. ~Use Monk to pitch any spell to summon Rocket. Rocket searches out reload. Next, overlay them both for Lavalval Chain and mill out a second Reload to the grave ~Guards and/or Daigusto Emeral are wondrous in returning your 3 Scattershots for a draw, opening your grave again for you to use another Reload on your opponent.
Now, no more words. Instead, watch a video exploring and showing the power of Volcanics, putting all the above into action.

Guard should be at 3 always tough, its a + 2 dat u always wanna have in ur hand. This deck shoul also run Duality and upstart x 3,MST x 3 its a grea adition not only for the usual enemy backrow pop but because in extreme cases u can pop ur own reload to go for the scattershot nuke.cards like ojama trio and ceasfire are good if u wanna focuss in the burn part(something easy becasue if u get the rigt cards u will be inflicting 1500 damage every turn). The speed of the deck is simply brutal,u will find yourself with a solid +8 on your opponent without problems.

Thank you all for the positive reviews.
Keep in mind, Atlas, I only gave the core functions of the deck. Everything I've stated up there (that actually has run numbers) are considered that staples. The remaining space is still considered player's choice. Albeit MST, Upstart, Pod of Duality, etc (in our opinion) are the best choices to help fill in those gaps, some other players may have other personal preferences instead.
As an example, the guy who topped 8 (that i mentioned in the OP), ran Fire/Ice Hand over MST and Upstart, and ran very little forms of monster protection. To you and me, those are terrible choices, but in the end it worked for him.

This might seem like a silly question but i feel like its one worth asking Foolish burial or nah? i mean, its a spell for summoner and it also livens up hands by getting shell to grave to get your cycle started, but that's the problem, outside of that i dont see it doing much to help your plays except summoner fodder and maybe getting a fourth pyro for guards?

It''s not really needed. As you already have dumpers in the deck.

oh, for who want to try the cute volcanic counter, you can try to run fire hand and ice hand^^
you can also run 1 blaze accelerator for summoner monk fodder and more removal eff(but your removal eff should be enough00)
royal guards should be 3 because now volcanics have many draw power^^

Alpay runs tratprix in the deck and altough increases the rank 4 spam and gives u acces to big traps like bottomless and time pace hole it makes the deck 10 times slower. Its just my personal opinion but i prefer the destructive speed of the pure deck over the traptrix teched one.

Unfortunately, I'm a horrible teacher, and thus I don't answer questions.
Every deck in YuGiOh is up for debate pertaining to card usage. I gave you the core running numbers to the current most optimal build. If you wish to change it to your likings, then go ahead. I cannot stop you.
