| Welcome to the first "Time Machine Tuesday!" In these lessons, we'll be examining a deck from the older days of YuGiOh! and discussing how it plays now.
With the new support coming from Secrets of Eternity, what better deck to discuss than the spectacular, prismatic creatures known as The Crystal Beasts!
The Crystal Beasts were showcased in the GX anime and Manga by Jesse Anderson and a great number of fans fell in love with the deck (myself included). There are only seven of the Crystal Beasts, each one a different coloured gemstone that corresponds to a colour of the rainbow. The main strategy of theirs is to fill your Spell/Trap card zones with Crystal Beasts and utilizing them for various effects such as the Field Spell "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" and "Crystal Abundance," the latter of which has an OTK designed around it.
Crystal Beasts also have a boss monster known as the "Rainbow Dragon" but it is not seen for competitive builds as many find the "Abundance OTK" build much better.
Let's discuss the monsters of this deck, shall we?
The Crystal BeastsAll Crystal Beast monsters have an effect which allows them to become face-up Continuous Spell Cards upon their destruction but each one has a unique effect as well.Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle
This adorable critter can swarm the field when it's Special Summoned. Upon its Special Summoning, Carbuncle brings out all the Crystal Beasts you currently have in the Spell/Trap zones. This makes for good swarms as well as access to some Xyz plays.Run 2-3. You won't enjoy drawing it, but its a great card for the deck all the same. Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth
Amber Mammoth is more of the protective sort, guiding attacks on Crystals back to himself.Run 0. He's not useful if you're not running Rainbow Dragon, in which case run 1. Crystal Beast Topaz Tiger
Such a pretty kitty and a fierce one at that! Tiger gains 400 ATK when it attacks another monster, making it essentially a 2000 beatstick. Even better if you use the equip spell, "Crystal Release" and make it 800 stronger!Run 1-2. 3 if you have the room for it. Crystal Beasts can be a bit cloggy if run inproperly. Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise
His effect is pretty lackluster but he opens up Rank 3 plays with Ruby Carbuncle. Plus he makes a decent wall in a pinch or if you just need another draw.Run 0-1 Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus
Arguably the BEST of the Crystal Beasts. 1800 ATK? Awesome. Level 4? Even better. Fetches a Crystal Beast to place directly into the S/T zone when he gets Summoned in anyway? That's the best! Pegasus here keeps your deck thinned out and keeps the deck fast.Run 3. Not a single reason not to run 3. Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle
Eagle is a bit less impressive looking than Mammoth but being a WIND Winged Beast gives you more Xyz options that you'd normally only have Pegasus for. Handy if you want to reuse a Pegasus for next turn.Run 2-3 Crystal Beast Amythest Cat
Oh look another kitty! If we had ourselves an unbanned "Rescue Cat" I'd say this card was worth running, but sadly outside of Rainbow Dragon variants...Cat's useless.Run 0. Rainbow lovers run 1.
Next up we have the spells. There's a good number of them so hang on to your hats.
The Crystal Spells Crystal Abundance Here's the card that makes the plays. Abundance lets you send 4 Crystal Beasts from the S/T zone and then send all other cards on the field to the Graveyard. Then you get to Summon as many Crystal Beasts from the grave, up to the amount of opponent's cards sent by Abundance. No destruction whatsoever! Run 1-2 if you're defensive, but 3 if you're an OTK player. Crystal Beacon Let's you get 2 Crystal Beasts out of the deck and into the backrow. Amazing to help set up your OTK plays. Run 2-3. I find 3 cloggy but its preference really. Crystal Promise Best used on a Carbuncle or Pegasus but not even the best card in the lineup. Run 1-3, total preference. Crystal Blessing Nowhere near as good as Soul Charge and/or Ayers Rock Sunrise now. Run 0-1 Rare Value With the aforementioned cards that outshine Blessing, Rare Value is now even better. You can be a lot more "careless" with the cards you use Rare Value on. Run 2-3 Crystal Release This is the Equpi Spell. It grants a +800 Atk AND when it pops, you get a Crystal Beast in your backrow. Pretty soild card. Run 1-3 though I think 2 is perfect. Crystal Tree A very handy card early game, especially if you have a Pegasus with it. This card can easily set up your OTK by turn 2. Run 2-3. Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins One of my favourite Field Spells ever! Self-protecting, reduces battle damage, S/T negation, free draws, AND a swarm ability? Yes please! Run 2-3. Its more for control than aggro though.
I'm skipping the Crystal Beast Traps as none of them are worth the time of day in this build.
Other cards
Summoner Monk If you run 2 of these bad boys, you have a greater access to Pegasus and its effect. Just be careful about the spells you ditch.
Kuribandit Truly a "hidden GEM" in this deck. Heh, get it?
Ayer's Rock Sunrise A staple to a lot of Beast decks now. Overlaying with Pegasus isn't so bad now that you can use this to bring it right back.
Soul Charge Same reasons with Ayer's except Charge can snag a graved Ruby.
The Extra Deck is entirely up to preference. Common cards used here include: Diamond Dire Wolf, Lightning Chidori, Ragnazero, Ice Beast Zerofyne, Leviair, Cowboy, #101, Abyss Dweller and Zenmaines.
So for this lesson, I want to hear your thoughts on the Crystal Beasts. Are they worth playing? Can they be competitive? Will their new support coming up make them better?

| I love the new CB support you can legit summon rainbow dragon turn 2/3 well easy now.. CB decks with only Pegasus, eagle and carbuncle suck. all about 4000 ATK BRD | |

| The issue with Rainbow Dragon is not its requirements but rather its effects NOT working the turn it gets played. | |

| I just realised.. where's Advanced Dark? It's amazing to get the 7 crystal beasts in play for rainbow. Plus you can plus so much when you used advanced dark with:
WHERE'S Crystal Hoard??? That card is so pluss and just so good no matter what varient you're playing. it makes crystal beasts somewhat playable vs meta.
And the pendulum protection effects are pretty good too... plus 1 is an honest, and 1 is a stratos
