A Storm on the Horizon: Gusto Tsunami! Empty
PostSubject: A Storm on the Horizon: Gusto Tsunami!   A Storm on the Horizon: Gusto Tsunami! EmptyWed Jan 07, 2015 11:28 am

As requested by "Hazzy Boi" and "Inuziro," I've compiled a quick guide on the Gusto.

The Rising Tsunami
A Storm on the Horizon: Gusto Tsunami! 68sl06

The Gusto archetype consists primarily of WIND Psychic- and Winged Beast-type monsters, though there are a few Thunder-types in there as well. Gustos focus on Synchro Summoning and recycling their Graveyard for some good effects.

The most common way of filling the Graveyard with the monsters is the battle searching strategy. This let's you fill the grave for those aforementioned effects and gives you the wall you need at the end of the Battle Phase.

How they play

Gusto are defensive by nature. The deck is essentially a "recruiter loop." Winda fetches Gulldo, Gulldo fetches Egul, Egul fetches Winda. Its a safe and secure way to protect yourself, if you keep it going. Cards such as "Caam, Serentiy of Gusto" and "Blessings for Gusto" recycle the monsters so that we can prolong the loop for as long as it is needed. Ultimately, your goal is to get the opponent to waste their resources trying to stop your plan while in reality, you're just building that storm front until the right moment and unleash the full tsunami upon them.

After the defensive plays have paid off, its time to counter-attack. Cards like "Musto, Sage of Gusto," "Creature Swap," "Daigusto Gulldos," and "Contact with Gusto" will begin the assault by clearing  the remaining threats and blocks. Then, "Gusto Codor" and "Windaar, Sage of Gusto" take out weaker monsters they control (which is great if you "Creature Swap" them a recruiter Gusto) and increase field presence to combo up into Synchros. Finally, end it with a Synchro summon just to pressure the opponent some more.

Remember: the defensive and offensive style of the Gusto is one and the same and not separate.

Here's an example of a Pure build skeleton. The benefits of this build are that it's flexible, has that offense-defense balance, works alongside Skill Drain and is mostly 1 Attribute so you can work with Gozen Match. Please bear in mind that the skeleton here isn't a defined "run this exactly" list but more a guideline of what it should look like.

Call of the Haunted
A Storm on the Horizon: Gusto Tsunami! 23612

The issues with this build however, is that it is VERY vulnerable to banishment and Piercing is a nightmare. That and the ruling explanations will drive you mad at times.

I hope this guide is helpful and if you have any comments, question or concerns, please post them below and I'll get to them as best I can

Have a good one!

Very useful guide. However is there any particular reason why you haven't included Naturia Beast and Naturia Barkion as useful techs?.

Because those 2 Synchros require EARTH monsters and EARTH Tuners to be summoned.
